Ion Codrescu was born in Viisoara (Cobadin), Romania, in 1951. Education : B .A. - Department of Drawing - 1973, History of Art Department - 1982, Fine Arts Academy, Bucarest. His graphic works are in private and state collections in many countries. Although he had been writing haiku on and off over the years, he did not start publishing until 1992. He has had poems, essays and articles published in 16 countries and 12 languages. In 1992 he founded the Constantza Haiku Society, ALBATROS journal and the Constantza International Haiku Festival. In 1993 he founded the Mamaia / Constantza National Haiku Conference. Ion Codrescu is a member of the Romanian Writers' Association, Haiku Society of America, Haiku International Association, Renku Association of Japan, Accademia Internazionale "Greci-Marino", Accademia del Verbano, di Lettere, Arti, Science - Italy, World Haiku Association - USA and World Haiku Club - Great Britain. He has been invited to deliver papers on haiku and to read his poems in Romania, France, Germany, Great Britain, the USA, Finland, Japan, Ireland and Spain.
